2005 Mini-Conference: We hosted a Mini-Conference on Homeland Security October 1, 2005. Presenters from CEPIN (Community Emergency Preparedness Information Network) came to discuss strategies that deaf and hard-of-hearing people could do to protect themselves in case of an emergency. Also, Millicent Williams, manager of the D.C. Citizen Corps, was present to answer questions about the D.C. Government's emergency preparedness tasks. Following this portion of the conference, we had our Annual Meeting where we voted in a new Board and passed resolutions to be acted on during the following year. For more information, please read our flyer.
Miss Deaf D.C. Pageant: In addition, we, along with Gallaudet University, co-host the Miss Deaf Gallaudet/D.C. pageant. The 2005-2007 Miss Deaf Gallaudet/D.C. is Ms. Erica Parker, and she will compete at the biennial Miss Deaf America Pageant at the 2006 NAD conference in Palm Desert. Best of luck to Miss Deaf D.C.!
