Before scooping ice cream, Martha Stewart would insert marshmellows inside the cones to "plug" the bottom.

Been a number of years, Deaf Pundit. It was pitched by the "godfather of infomercials" - Mr. Ron Popeil himself. You've probably seen him, he's the guy that has that Showtime Rotisserie thing... the one where you just "set it and forget it" and it cooks your bird, your roast, or your salmon for ya.

Ron has pitched a number of infamous products over the years - starting with the Veg-O-Matic and including items such as the Pocket Fisherman, the above-mentioned "hair spray," and of one of his earliest, which was the Ronco Spray Gun - it was this garden hose nozzle with a chamber in it, in which you put a special tablet thing that was soap or wax or weed killer or insecticide or whatever, and then basically sprayed the hose to wash your windows, wax your car, kill the dandelions in your driveway, or get rid of the beetles in your garden.

Ron made a fortune on that "sucker born every minute" line - the guy's a multimillionaire. Granted, he has created some pretty good stuff over the years, but he had a couple of major humdingers in there also.

Oh boy, there were some real gems in there, huh? Thanks for the chuckle, Vikki.

At the same time, I do have to agree with the line "Necessity is the mother of all invention" - but I have to wonder if and where intelligence enters the picture.

But then, as hilarious and incredulous as these inventions might seem, they aren't much worse than some of those I have actually seen marketed on infomercials and the like.

Anyone remember that "special hair spray" for balding men? In reality, it wasn't anything more than spray paint for your head.

People do come up with crazy inventions, but hey anything to make a buck huh? or at least try to.

The greatest invention of today would probably be whatever it is that can block ALL spam! dammit =)

I love it. This is hilarious. I propose we put foot scrub/soap on the sponge bike-pedals as a double duty!
