Paris Hilton has been sentenced to jail for 45 days for driving under a suspended license. Her jail tenure starts on June 5, 2007. This is one subject I have mixed feelings about blogging.
a) Is it important enough to warrant such attention?
b) How does Paris Hilton going to jail affect anyone?
So I decided to leave it as is. And then, I kept hearing it every single morning on Washington Post Radio (yes on the Washington Post Radio). Every where I turn, its Paris this and Paris that. Then I hear that people are signing a petition to have Govenor Arnold pardon her? Umm, okay (that was my initial reaction)! Let’s see. People are rallying to help out Paris Hilton whose achievements are ….what? Exactly. After being totally overloaded by everything Paris on every single media stream, I decided I had to vent out my frustrations and thoughts.
She is known for her:
a) Bad singing
b) Her *ahem* video
c) Awful fashion sense
d) Red carpet antics
e) Gazillion boyfriends
And the list of stupidities go on….
This girl’s only claim to fame is her “name” and the despicable acts mentioned above. My fascination and confusion in this whole issue lies in the fact that someone so stupid can become so popular. You have little kids running around wanting to be like Paris, whose role model is Paris. It definitely is safe to say that gone are the days where role models were women like Albright, Mother Teresa and so on. Seriously, Paris Hilton? Can we not do better than that?
Fine, even if I look past this useless qualities about her and try to find the good things, I just can’t! I mean there is nothing! She should go to jail and pay for the crime, YES CRIME, she committed. I don’t think any ordinary person would get off with doing what she did, so what would make her above the law? Now they are saying she may only serve half of her sentence? Ummm, why?
So, Mr. Governor, if you are reading this: Please let her go to jail and pay for her crimes. We would not want anyone thinking that Hollywood celebrities are above the law do we? (*totally rolling my eyes*)
Maybe someone should start a petition asking to keep her in jail for all 45 days? That’s a thought….

not that I read everything “Paris” (I don’t), but I do know that the reason she may only serve half her sentence or less is because of overcrowding in the California jails.
While I acknowledge that Paris Hilton may indeed be the poster child for the “Dumb Blonde” stereotype, I refuse to believe that she’s stupid enough as to not realize what she was getting herself into when she chose to speed down a highway at 11:00 at night with no headlights… on a suspended license.
Maybe 45 days in jail will jolt her into reality and force her to grow up and accept the consequences of her actions.
But I’m not holding my breath.
just fyi - there is actually a petition going around to keep her in jail - to have her serve her time. I can’t find the link right at this moment, but if I find it I will post it.
Yeah. This is the petition to keep her *IN* jail.

Personally, she annoys the heck out of me, and I cannot fathom why the media pays so much attention to her. I hope she goes to jail and *stays* there! Not that it would really teach her a lesson, with all of the sycophants around her. *sigh*
I couldn’t believe the lady thinks she shouldn’t go to jail. She definitely had the resources to have someone drive her to wherever it was that she needed to go.
However, I was more enraged that the U.S. Government decided not to pursue terrorism charges against Luis Posada Carrilles. He worked with the CIA when they plotted to send Castro to the other side. One of Luis’ achievement was bombing a passenger plane, and 73 souls perished (Google or Wikipedia this).
War on Terror? Only select terrorists are targeted. After all, “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter”.
What….. The HELL… does Luis Posada Carrilles have to do with Paris Hilton and her richie rich antics?
This blog posting is centered on why socialites have the audacity to think they don’t deserve their punishment and peoples reactions thus.
(scoff) i’m SO ENRAGED! (shakes fist)
I have to agree with Punky…
When I read this for the first time, I was like “HUH???”
Yes, there are times when comments might stray a bit away from topic - but let’s not use the writings of bloggers here or elsewhere simply as an arbitrary opportunity to espouse our own platforms which have little to do with the post subject.
Amen! Or should I say “Awomen!”
I got it when PunkyPUSspewster called me on my antics. Now, what made you think I need another person to point this out to me? You seem to be a scavenger of sorts…
For double standards, you’re on notice!
OH… MY … GOD. whatever shall I do?
Peyote Pete, knock it off. Your kind of comments aren’t appreciated. PB’s comments may be aggravating to you, but at least his comments have a point to it.
Do you speak for everyone? Some of PB’s comments were not needed either, and contributed nothing.
I speak only for myself, but I don’t see anyone else disagreeing with me, and it’s usually the case when people disagree, it’ll be definitely known.
Whose fault for creating “celebrities without merits”? What is the real contribution of baby boomers to our nowaday society?
We have too many celebrities with no merits. We kinda encourage individuals to take up with their birth names and live off them without really make any significant contributions to the society at large or prove themselves worthy of all kind of attention.
The Hilton family have to answer for the whole thing about Paris Hilton’s upbringing and public behavior.
Lets see who is responsible for YOUR upbringing and blame them.
Wow, so you mean to tell me it’s Paris Hilton’s Family who is at fault for her behavior? Maybe if she was under the age of 18. But she’s a grown woman she’ll learn the hard way.
That being said, Paris Hilton is an extremely rich individual who has been given the EVERYTHING she’s ever wanted without difficulty. Her life has been put up on the pedestal to entertain people like YOU and me…. She’s also the head cheerleader of her little group of cronies who are also up on the same platform.
It’s not her parents fault, she has a responsibility for her own actions, but could you really say that being who she is and without humility that it’s not to be expected from someone who has all the means at her disposal? even if she chose the life of a humble person, society wouldn’t let her. Lets think about that for a second, if you make 250 grand a year, you can’t live in the slums and expect not to be hassled.
Hmm. I would have to say that it’s BOTH Paris and her family’s fault for who she is. Her family *can* take steps to let Paris know that her behavior is out of line. I’m an adult, but if my family thinks I’m being out of line, they won’t mince words in telling me. We all do that with each other, parents and siblings. That’s what families are for. To paraphrase someone: “Families are here to to support you and to slap you upside your head when you’re being an idiot, no matter how old you are.”
it’s still not the family’s responsibility, not when she’s a grown woman.
PB, you’re right it’s not the family’s responsibility once she turns 18, but it doesn’t help matters any when your mother cusses out the prosecutors for doing their job.
The Hilton family seems encourage Paris Hilton to be grossly filthy rich to flaunt her wealth and superfical behavior without working for anything.
Our society at large is also at fault for being fascinated with celebrities without merits and keep up with the gossip news about them.

i bet you my BOTTOM dollar you’d be the same fricken way if you had hotel chains and money coming out of your nose.
