In 1980 born Deaf people were regarded as genetically tainted and hearing people urged their daughters and sons not to marry into such families. Nowadays I am sure the situation has changed with better education and awareness of the strength of the Deaf culture. Americans can do much in teaching the Deaf of other countries to be confident in themselves and their abilities and inspire them to achieve in ways that we have.
