Hey Wildstarryskies, no sizing's allowed--you're already being great for adding this comment, so thanks!

And because I wrote this piece doesn't mean I know what I'm doing. It's a challenge for us to identify just what are the paradigm shifts takin' place. For sure, there'd be a new Gallaudet. It has to happen. It needs to be a place where people do feel welcomed, included, and respected. We, as a cultural minority, know exactly what it feels like to be excluded and marginalized. It seems, at least to me, inexcusable that we are doing this to our own community. So the point of this blog was to really step out of that cycle and move forward. I'd hate to see 10 years later after two major protests (DPN and Unity for Gallaudet), nothing has changed. This cannot happen. It really is up to us how we can make sure the history doesn't repeat itself.

Another even more recent example of forgiveness - the Amish people in Pennsylvania. After the children were murdered the Amish did not get outraged. Instead, they said they forgave the guy who did it and left things for his family. Some even attended the funeral. Alot of us would have a hard time doing that.

Awl LIz, you're the bigger person than me in this regard. You are right. It's hard for all of us, and not all of us live up to that.

I promise to try harder.

Beautifully said, Elizabeth.

I agree...if we are going to move forward, we must do so in an atmosphere of love and respect.

Thank you for posting.

This was a very refreshing blog to read after all the vitriol that has been tossed around lately.

I don't think it's sappy or cheesy to want all of us to unite. After all, this was supposed to be Unity for Gallaudet, wasn't it?
