This probably is the briefest DeafDC post to date. For I have just one question.
Why are the Redskins doing so poorly this season?! I’m not a football expert, but from what I could see of last night’s game (against the Cowboys), both the offense and defense sucked big-time.

Not a Reskins fan here, but a huge NFL fan…my observations:
Quaterback: Brunell is no longer elusive like he used to be. Brunell needs protection up front in order to function. I think it’s time for the Campbell era….or they should have kept Ramsey…at least Ramsey could take a beating.
Wide Receivers: Not too bad. Brunell simply doesn’t have time to hit them deep. Saw Santana Moss beating his man a few times to no avail. Randel El has given the Skins some boost here and there, but IMO..the Skins overpaid for him. Brandon Jacobs? Haven’t seen anything yet. What’s up with old friend David Patten? I know he was recently hospitalized.
Tight End: Chris Cooley isn’t getting open as often as he should. This is an Al Saunders offense…Tony Gonzalez had great years in K.C. with Al…no reason why Cooley shouldn’t be getting touches.
Running back: Duckett is ok…Betts should be the #2 guy…dunno what happened to Betts this year…he’s usually pretty good. Portis missed the game…Portis would have made a big difference last night.
Offensive line: Just not good enough, but I am not sure it’s all the line’s fault.
Offensive coordinator: Al Sunders…he’s supposed to be sooo good because Gibbs turned over the play calling duties to him. Looks like Al needs more time to get the team up to speed. His play book is rumored to be 1,000+ pages deep and Brunell cannot pick it all up yet. IMO, he’s the main culprit for the offense’s woes.
Defense: This defense is supposed to be some good and their DC Gregg is pretty damn good. I think they’ll work it out as soon as Portis comes back and the Skins play ball control keeping the defense fresh. They have been out there way too much the first two games.
I say the problem is the offense’s inability to perform consistenly.
The Skins look toast to me now…especially since they play in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. I could see that they were extremely weak in pre-season up in Foxboro…the Pats just did whatever they wanted whenever….
Thanks for the detailed analysis- now I’ll (perhaps?) be able to impress my husand at home!
Actually- I did see the quarterback faltering one too many times, especially with that last drive. C’mon.
Brandon Jacobs? He’s the backup to Tiki Barber in New York. Perhaps you meant Brandon Lloyd. Either way, the Redskins overpaid for the guy.
The team is cursed because of The Danny. This overbearing dwarf took a playoff caliber team, that was one bad snap and a conference championship game away from the Super Bowl (Brad Johnson anyone?) and gutted it the next year just so he could have his own personal fantasy football team. I’ll grant you that the NFL is an entertainment business and you need “stars”, but winning makes the stars. Stars don’t make the winning. I mean, look at Brad Johnson. He would probably never be called a star, but he keeps on winning everywhere he goes… including one super bowl win, hello? Dan Snyder is a jerk. Only a moron would hire Steve Spurrier to coach a professional football team.
Steve Spurrier- good riddance.
I’m trying to remember just which reporter called Snyder nothing but a big frat-brat trying to orchestrate the ultimately perfect fantasy team.
How about Marty Schottenheimer? He’s having a good time down in San Diego.
He started 0-5, then ended it 8-8.. just like Joe Gibbs in his first year ever as a coach. Despite that, Dan axed him in favor of Spurrier.
From here on out, the Redskins are going to have a stinkbomb of a season.. or they will turn things around and finish the season 12-4.
Hey, a fan can always dream!
Good for the Washington Redskins, esp. David Synder!
I loathe the professional sports which people are real hyprocritical for not wanting to pay decent taxes for good public education. Sport fans would be much willing to pay hoards of their paychecks for steeper stadium passes or best seats.
What about the needs of our youngsters as “future resources”?
I am much pleased to know that the Washington Redskins have been slapped with the legal lawsuit by the NAD for lack of accomodation and accessibility.
I really find David Synder to be replusive for being too greedy with the cutdowns of trees in protected areas within his residence.
I missed the former Redskin owner, Jack Cooke for being truly a good citizen! We need more people like Cooke, not Synder.
The Native Americans probably put the “curses” on David Synder and the Washington Redskins for being racially intolerant with the use of aggresive symbol of their own people.
How dumb of Tom Cruise waltzing with David Synder for the future movie deals. Synder really know nothing about the movie business. He just sniff “green” all the time.
First of all, I think the Redskins are STILL in court appealing the recent ruling on their ‘racially derogatory’ mascot… Anybody have the latest update on this?
Second, it is Dan Snyder, not David Synder.
Third, Dan Snyder did obtain permission to cut down those trees- he actually planted more trees in return… It was the Washington Post who apparently set out with this aggressive Synder-bashing agenda, as outlined in the recent Washingtonian issue.
Finally, your “decent taxes for good public education” bit.. how is this related to the Redskins and their pitiful demise?
On top of that, critics have voted FedEx as the worst stadium to visit. I do see a current trend.
On the other note, how about them Cowboys!!!!!!!!! whooooooo! Here’s a good payback to Skins.
RLM and Jt, you got it all wrong. It’s The Dan.
Maybe the players are distracted because Deaf people are complaining about the lack of captioning at FedEx Stadium?
Speaking of just THAT, here’s what the Washington Biz Journal had to say:

Hope you have a subscription- but if not, the local vendors will likely have printed editions. CVS did. I hear it’s a good read!
first of all,
al saunders is bringing a completely new offensive scheme to the Washington redskins. saunders’ plays made the chiefs one of the most productive offenses in the last couple years. it was a completely smart move to snatch him from kansas city. but with a new offense, it takes a while to truly understand it. it would be impossible for the whole team to be able to truly understand and execute his offensive plays within training camp and pre-season. every coach has their way of executing offense. it just takes time to get used to. this is why we don’t see much of t.j. duckett, a player who joined after training camp and the pre-season. he still needs to be brought up to speed, while the rest of the team is still trying to comprehend the offensive scheme.
Brunell just plains sucks. and while i do blame a the o-line a little bit, it still comes down to brunell. he holds that ball wayyy too long. he needs to take shorter drop steps, and look for quick dump offs to the wide-outs. with the return of portis, we can start to see a little pressure taken off brunell because defenses will stop blitzing as much. as of now, the redskins dons have a “decent” tailback (runningback). Betts has always been a decent rb. he shows flashes of good plays, then completely sucks the next week.
as of snyder, hes just a retard when it comes to running a productive football team. but everything he does behind the scenes, new stadium, marketing, etc… makes him a genius. he bought the redskins for about 700 million i believe. now the redskins are valued at over 1 billion dollars, and is considered the “richest” football team in the NFL. i think that says something about snyder’s marketing schemes. but when it comes to signing players, he could do a little…ALOT better.
but hey, that’s just my 2 cents.
FYI, JT. The National Park Services and the GAO already had their own internal investigations and made conclusion that the NPS had been improperly influenced in their decision for letting Dan Synder unnecessarily cutted down the trees on his property adjoined to the public land.
Why dont you ask SHANE??? after all he is suing them… more reason for hearing peoeple in DC to view us deafies as cry babies… for a guy that went to RIT he is no different then those kids last spring at gally.
I love going out in DC now to be viewed as a cry baby and if I dont get my way they are scared that they ll be sued or all the deaf people will come over and protest.
I am genuinely sorry for how you feel.
Those who know Shane can easily confirm that he chooses his battles wisely. He is a man of principle, and the rest of us should congratulate him on such self-advocacy. For I bet that YOU… had you gone to a single game and realized that you couldn’t hear the announcements along with all the other fans… you would have just grimaced and shrugged your shoulders. Like the rest of us. It’s what *I* would have done, too. Just shrugged my shoulders: “Oh well.”
But not Shane. Like you and me, he has probably encountered all kinds of situations in which one feels seriously screwed over- but unlike you and me, he actually did something about it. For the greater good of the community, too. Not -only- deaf people are going to benefit from the accommodations that *will* eventually be provided by the Redskins.
The reason you outlined is pathetic. “He shouldn’t have sued because now everyone will think we’re crybabies”. Had you come up with a far more intelligent argument, I might have sat back to absorb; but luckily, I have an excellent BS detector.
Ditto… Shane is not one to sit around passively. He likes to take action and make himself heard — but he does choose his battles. He wouldn’t have done this if he didn’t feel strongly about it. He’s a lifelong football fan, played in high school, and just wants the same access that the other 3x,000 fans at FedEx field get — access that is provided within the guidelines of the ADA.
I’ll admit that I prefer watching games at home (football, basketball, soccer, baseball, etc.) because I can just flip on the captions. I’m too lazy to sue, and besides, I don’t have season passes for anything. But I’d love to go to a game and know what the announcers are saying.
so if you all support shame suing the redskins and think he is such a wise decision maker. let me ask you this question you think everything you see cc on the tv is broadcasted over speakers at the football game? new flash for you all it is not broadcasted…nothing is really annouce people go to the game and scream. what is shane expecting them to cc the fans screaming?? you go to the football game and watch it not sit there and talk to your friends and when you miss a big play or call cry and bitch since it was close caption just for deaf people convience of not paying attention to the game.
where is the substance in this law suit it is gonna get laughed out the door.
shane is suing about cc you cannot bring up other ada issues or how ****** the stadium design is or how it was built.
what’s next hearing people suing football teams cuz it is too loud inside of the stadium?
Well…well, Qwerty
Guess what? Redskns fans complain over the Redskin radio..
Some Fans Say Redskins Radio Fumbles Game Broadcasts
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....01755.html
I bet thousands of Redskin fans especially deaf hardcore fans are gonna to kick Dannyboy’s royal ass…
This is an ADA issue because public accommodations such as football stadiums are required to provide auxiliary aids and services which includes closed captioning.
Synder and the Redskins have so much revenues and they cannot use the undue financial burden for not modifying the TV screens to include closed captioning.
Did it ever occur to you that this lawsuit may not only benefit deaf people but hearing people who can read the captioning if the noise is too loud for them to hear the announcements? Same thing in bars and restaurants that have TVs.
Oh, that’s right. You didn’t realize that because you’re too busy moaning and bitching about deaf people. Loo-hooo-ssssser!
On the other hand - Brunell broke records yesterday with 22 consecutive passes. Not bad for a comeback, but….Redskins still suck :)
