Also - Warren Buffett is giving away his money. The ironic thing is - he's giving it to Gates to give away. The #2 richest man in America is in effect giving most of his money to the #1 richest man.

When you're that rich, the money becomes obscene, and its next to impossible to spend it. I've read stories about Paul Allens prolific spending - this is a guy who has not one but TWO yachts, the most recent of which cost close to $400 million, has not one but TWO helicopters, among many other extravagant features. This is a guy who likes to indulge.

Ellison once bought an F-14 if I recall - cuz he liked to fly, and got bored of his G-IV.

And the ironic thing is, when the list was started in 1982, just to make the list, you needed a net worth of around $80 million if I recall right. Can't find a link to verify it though I do remember reading it somewhere.

Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter.

What makes me happy is having enough money that I don't have to worry about money. I mean I am happy when I have enough money to pay my bills, food, etc. but I dont care about having a lot of money and luxury things. i just want to be happy. So, no, money doesn't make me happy, but it allows me to experience life in a way that makes me happy.

For those who say, "Money won't buy you happiness"...I always respond with, "I'd like to find out for myself, thank you."

There is a trend nowadays with philanthropy. There's the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which now has over $60 billion thanks to Gates and Buffett. There's also the Clinton Global Initiatives.. Richard Branson pledged $3 billion to fight global warming. They are the present-day Carneiges and Rockefellers. At least they're putting it to good use.

I agree. Money doesn't buy you happiness but it gives you a hell of a lot more choices in life though.
