With the new U.S. African Command (AFRICOM), a new military combatant command, the U.S. will be more involved in Africa.

Stunning article. Thanks for bringing it home, so to speak. My heart goes out to those volunteers who didn't even get to say good-bye to the children and villages they worked with for so long.

You certainly have traveled a long, winding road from Arlington, Allen, and have gained much in experience in the process.

Best wishes and good health on your continued journeys.

Amen to you, Allen! You took one less road traveled by, which has made all the difference in the situation you have just witnessed and experienced. I hope you're keeping a journal, like I said many times before, write a novel! You deserve it, what with the time and energy you're investing in the collective braintrust. Have faith in yourself as a writer. Try to remember, each day is a new day, new path, look for the best~ don't let things get you down... Focus on the positive and you'll enjoy your adventure far more. Have a safe journey!

Those PCVs who were forced to abandon their sites - will they receive a honorable discharge and be considered as "completed" so they can receive privileges a PCV who has completed his/her tour would have gotten?

I hope Kenyans will be able to resolve this situation and heal together as a nation. I lived briefly among the Luo out there in the tiny village of Ogongo so my thoughts often come back to my former students of Lambwe school. I hope they're doing alright those days.
