to correct one small thing, when I said extreme for fame - that's about the film.

While I said - if they can shake their stuff and get some attention - I meant for American Idol contestants.
LOL, it sounded like I meant for the characters in 15 Minutes which I do not want to say if they can shake their stuff and get attention why not. Oy vey no way!

I am an American Idol fan. I have watched it from the very beginning to now. Watching awfully bad singers can really get on my nerves after so many weeks. I do not know why they want to make a fool out of themselves front of millions but in reality, people flock to them saying I saw you on TV, they LOVE it!
Even where a gay man who was nasty to Simon, got his 15 mins of fame when EXTRA asked him to be on the show and walk down the street and go shopping on them! People flocked to him asking to take pictures, autographs, and saying how they saw him on TV. That man is nasty! a true Diva, after the adoring fans, he said "America is really the heaviest country" insulting people. He's worse than Simon. He was also seen on YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE? he was just equally nasty when the judges were not mean like Simon was. He was just grabbing the 15 mins of fame all he can!
As for American Idol, I think the show will definitely help your career no matter if you won the title or not because at least you got an album made! Like Ryan Starr seen on many reality shows, Katherine McPhee will be on Ugly Betty and album just came out, Clay Aiken selling his 3rd album, Tamyra Gray successful songwriter, actress from Boston Public, and her own album soon, Josh Gracin a marine, has an album coming, and Daughtry, as mentioned has a nbr 1 selling album staying at the 10 ten in the chart for weeks, and even a Idol who was thrown out of the show for doing a racy photo, Frenchie Davis is now a lead actress on Broadway RENT, so on. They all manage to stay in the public eye. Meanwhile the Idol winners are not that lucky as the losers! Fantasia Barrino, Rueben Studdard, and Bo Bice are still struggling to show why they are a true American Idol except Kelly Clarkson who has too many Gold Records (exceeding the top of the charts and selling the most albums).
So you would be surprised what people would do for 15 Minutes! Ever see a movie called 15 MINUTES? with Robert DeNiro and Ed Burns? That is what we call extreme for fame but if they can shake their stuff and get some attention and who knows they can go to Hollywood just for the hell of it and something they can cross off their list for experience. So be it.

it's rockstar. and yes people can sing better, it's mainly because they tend to be older & more trained. half of them tend to already have their own bands. Plus they just dress better right from the start.

Erin, what's the name of that similar program for rock music wannabe's, the one with Dave Navarro on it? I like that one better. Wonder if the contestants can sing any better?

I remember several years ago during the first season of American Idol, one of my Deaf friends told me that she was a huge fan. I did a double-take, "but how do you know if the contestant is a good singer?" Now that I've had a chance to watch the show this year, I get it. It's fun to watch, even if you can't tell the singing is lousy.
