I used to be so sick of reality TV. I don’t mind it as much anymore mainly because the stuff that I watch, I personally think is pretty good.
Last summer, I got hooked on Rock Star INXS. Before that show, I had heard of Inxs, but never really listened to their music. They’re an older band, and it was not my kind of music. But this show really knocked me off my feet mainly because they skipped over all the tryouts crap and started the show off with about 15 singers competing for a lead singer role in the band. To some, this was a dream come true. Granted, the tryout clips make for perfect entertainment, but it gets old and I’d much rather watch people who can sing.
So how are they doing it again this year? It’s called Rock Star Supernova, and it’s known as The Tommy Lee Project. Yes, that Tommy Lee. Hey, don’t knock him, he’s actually a cool guy with a few exceptions here and there. There was one thing that he did that just made me go, ohmygod could you be any more Tommy Lee? He called one of the singers, “rock star,” then threw the mike on the table. I had to crack up. I’m definitely going to be watching this show during the summer–it’s fun to watch people who can sing, perform, and just make these rock songs their own. It’s ten times better than that American Idol crap (considering they’ve only come across one true star and that’s Kelly Clarkson).
Another show that I just happened upon was “So You Think You Can Dance?” I didn’t watch it last summer, but oh, now I know why it’s popular. It’s pure entertainment to watch people have the ability to dance. It’s not just that, but the ability to learn new dances in less than a week’s time. Wowza. My only gripe (make that two gripes) about the show is that I think all the dancers should do the same dance each week, but different kinds every week. That way everyone has the same advantage–makes sense? The other gripe is they need to do is tape up Mary! Her laugh makes me cringe and I just can’t stand her voice! I have to cringe every time she’s going to talk. It’s that bad.
Back to the show–it’s fun and entertaining to watch. The way the couples stand next to one another answering questions and it looks like they’re posing for prom pictures. Some of the couples, I see chemistry and I see a LOT of chemistry. Some have style and flair, and some just have charisma. But the ones who are left totally deserve to be on the show. I’m rooting for either Heidi, Allison or Dontyella to win cuz those girls can move! The boys are just lucky to have these girls as their partners.
Reality TV isn’t sucking as much as it used to be. I think it’s mainly because I don’t see as much griping between contestants. And for those who make it on the show–whether or not they win…if they’re on the show for at least one or two episodes, they’re bound to be just a little more successful.
Any favorite reality show that you want to see come back on the air?

Would it be any different should we have a Deaf person on a tv network reality show such as “Racin for a Livin”? Such a person as Greg Gunderson, who graduated from Gally in May 1991, who is now among the 50 drivers vying for the top 12 spots on the show? http://www.gundersonracing.com/
Would you vote for him 20, 50 or 100 times a day until July 31 just so he get the most votes to get on the show and become a role model showing that deaf people can do anything except hear? And a chance for the winner of that show to get seven sponsored rides in the Busch Series in the 2007 season? And become the first Deaf NASCAR driver!!
Maybe other reality shows are a bit over the top. So far, having a deaf person on a reality show has proven to be a number generator among audiences watching in. Even Matt Hamill on June 1 who had a whole hour about him generated more viewers than people watching the hockey game and Game 5 of the Mavs - Spurs NBA playoff!
Have you been voting for Greg lately? Everyday? Pass it around folks. Only 24 days left.
:)
Kind of surprised that people haven’t talked about reality shows and deaf people on it.
Name three reality shows in the United States that had deaf people on it.
Also, remember this one?
