Erin and I’m a magazineaholic. I’m not kidding. I gorge on magazines more than anything.
I subscribe to about eight or nine. I can’t even recall which ones I subscribe to. Once or twice a month, I’ll feel my withdrawal of not having any magazines to read. That’s when I head over to Borders even though I know my next batch of magazines is coming soon. I’ll buy three or four new magazines. I can’t help myself.
I am a magazineaholic.
All my magazines are different, except for a couple that are almost too similar. Fitness, Shape (I know…I don’t know why I got 2 similar subscriptions), Real Simple (I love the crispness of it), Maxim, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Rolling Stones, Budget Living (or Travel?? - except I think it folded, HMMPH). I love them all. I’m tempted to subscribe to Women’s Health. I’m still thinking about that. I also read Better Homes & Garden, Southern Living, some wine magazine, National Geographic (just the pictures), Allure, Jane. Yikes. The list could go on.
I am a magazineaholic.
I don’t even throw any of my magazines away. I haven’t thrown any away in the past year and a half. I have a huge pile right next to my bed, in a canvas tote designed to hold magazines. It’s like my night stand, and right next to that canvas tote, I have a pile of magazines there too. Don’t worry, they’re stacked rather nicely. Then when you go downstairs, and look on our bookshelves, there’s about two or three shelves loaded with magazines.
I am a magazineaholic.
When I go to my parents’ house (the one they’re moving out of soon), one of the first things I do is look for all their old magazines and flip through them. I think they subscribe to about five or six. I thought I was bad until I was going through a box of stuff upstairs in our storage room, and found a box of my dad’s old magazines. I started laughing because he doesn’t really keep anything. But his Sail issues, he keeps. He even said, “Why can’t I keep my Sail because we have years and years of National Geographic.
I told him, “That’s National Geographic, you just don’t throw those away. That’s WRONG.”
I am a magazineaholic.
I used to be much worse about magazines. I refused to rip any pages out. I treated them like it was the Bible. Now i’m more than willing to rip out articles, tips, etc. I just haven’t gotten around to doing that yet. I keep a binder of tear sheets. I’ll get around to it some day.
I am a magazineaholic.
I’d love to one day work on a magazine. If only it were that easy to get my foot in the door. And no, I don’t want to live in NYC. I tried that once; it’s not where I feel at home. I’d love to work on the production side of a magazine. It’s my dream job.

You’re right on that point about National Geographic. It’s sancrosanct.
Sort of like how I thought my Nintendo Power issues 1-50 was untouchable until my parents threw it out last week.
But that aside, you have too many magazines. Gosh. Do you read every page or just skim through the whole thing?
I read every page. even the ads. (I know i’m crazy.)
Where the heck do you have time to do that? Do you read while you’re at the gym?
My vice is unfortunately illegal.
Hvae you stolen a magazine from a doctors office? Just so that you can finish that article you started. :-)
Money magazine is a good read. Read it religiously.
Wow….there is a term for my obsession. Erin I’ve been reading your blogs for the past few weeks and I have to say that we have sooo much in common. Perhaps I’ll bump into you at the a DPHH. Anyways, yesterday my coworkers were looking for me during our lunch break, all the while I was sitting at a window table reading the lastest “O” magazine. Yeah, I love Oprah…but I also subscribe to Southern Living(I’m from NC), Jet, Cosmo, Ebony, Essence & Black Enterprise! I read everything that first grabs my attention…and then I go back and read every other article or ad. Do you prefer reading your latest issue over the latest work gossip? Well, I’ll admit it….I’m a “magazineaholic” too *whew* I feel so much better!!!!
I can see that you got your love of magazines from your parents. ;)
I love magazines but I refused to spend money on them until recently! If I need a magazine fix (very rarely now since I have a 8-month-old), I head to Barnes and Noble and hang out for a few hours reading magazines.
When I was pregnant, I started subscribing to ‘Mothering,’ which is a GREAT natural family magazine. While visiting friends in Arizona, I loved reading their ‘Adventure’ magazine (part of National Geographic) simply because the writers are SO good and it also has great travel tips. Then I recently subscribed to ‘Yoga’ magazine because I want to familiarize myself in the world of yoga. It was from that magazine that I learned yoga wasn’t just a form of exercise but a way of life. Luckily the first magazine subscription was a gift from my mother and the next two are really cheap. I’m stopping here. (I hope!) ;)
you and tate. wowowowowowow.
