I’m one of those people who love…
90 degrees weather plus humidity.
Go ahead, look at me like I’m crazy. I absolutely love it. It helps if there’s a pool right there. Just lounge around. Mind you, I know all about the dangers of the sun, I’ve been reading way too many health magazines. and I’m more aware of the dangers.
Anyway my favorite thing about warm weather is the food. I’m the happiest person when I can pull out my grill and just start grilling a piece of fish and throw some veggies wrapped in foil and let it grill away. Throw in a veggie loaded salad, I’m good to go.
And the clean up is a piece of cake, just throw the foil away and wash your plate/silver ware/glass. Less than 5 minutes.
Granted I’m still learning how to grill properly. It’s easy for me to grill veggies without burning them, but fish & burgers & chicken. Don’t get me started. I’m still learning that.
Fish: i’m always afraid to burn them or under cook them. but my mom told me there are only a couple of fishes that grill really good. That’s shrimp, salmon, tuna, sword fish, dolphin (the fish, not the mammal, mind you) and shark (too bad I don’t like shark). Anything else tends to kind of fall apart on you, and just doesn’t hold too well on the grill. But the ones I mentioned. So delicious. I’m totally content with just grilling them and then squirting on lemon or lime juice. No marinade necessary.
Burgers: if I’m grilling for other people, I’ll let them do it. but otherwise expect me to make you a medium rare burger. Just how I like it. I notice a lot of people tend to push down on it with their spatula…don’t you DARE! that’s what makes the burger so juicy.
Chicken: I’ll eat chicken in a restaurant. Or at my parents house. Even though I really don’t like it. I like it, I just find it’s always DRY. Even my dad makes the chicken dry. My family told him that last summer, and he was hurt, but he can grill everything else pretty good. Just not chicken. But I’ve found someone who’s a pro at it, and that’s my brother in law. He knows how to grill a mean chicken. His secret is just make sure you flip it every couple of minutes or so, so that the juices are constantly distributed throughout the chicken. Hey it works for him. Yet I’m still not going to attempt it. =)
I really love when it gets warm outside. the food is the kicker for me. I absolutely love the food; it tastes better. It’s easier to cook…and it’s more fun. I’m gonna make sure I get my grill going more this summer!

*takes hamburger meat out of freezer to thaw*
how about tonight? :-D
hrm. does a george foreman grill count?
no a george forman grill does not count. That sucks the juice out of all the meat. I’ve not been successful with that. but it does make a mean grilled cheese sandwich.
ah yeah..also I don’t just cook beef burgers, i’m a fan of ground turkey & ground chicken burgers (those you have to cook all the way through) Try rachel ray’s recipes for burgers. they take me to heaven and back.
Jeremy, I’ve learned from experience that the best grilled burgers are those you don’t thaw prior to cooking (BBQ style, that is). That way, the meat stays in one piece and all the juices are retained. Try it the next time you do some grilling!
mahi-mahi is another fish that grills well.
Chicken is not hard — a good marinade (many fine ones are to be found in the local grocery store) does wonders in keeping the meat juicy. Maybe suggest that to your dad? The only other thing is not to have the fire too hot or leave ‘em onj too long.
Why wait for the warm weather? I am simply happy to grill outside anytime during the year. During winter, the grill provides enough warmth for my body and keep my old beaten ceramic mug warm (apple cider, hot chocolate, or coffee). Be creative when it comes to grilling all kinds of food. Put the fun in the art of grilling!
