I love living near several different cities. There’s DC…with tons of different neighborhoods, then VA (Arlington, Alexandria.. or does that blend in with DC?), there’s Bethesda, and Baltimore.
The coolest thing about all of them is I’m bound to have a good time in any one of those neighborhoods. I’m more familiar with the dc hood, than I am with VA or Bethesda. although I’m starting to get to know Baltimore a lot more than I know DC.
You can go just about anywhere in dc depending on your mood. I have some nights where I just want my hip hop music. Or when I want a low key hole in the wall kinda bar. Or one of those places where the music is kinda cheesy, and everyone sings along because they love those songs (check out Union Jack’s in Bethesda). Or you want a place where you can sit back and just watch everyone do their thing. You might even want a place where you can have as many beers as you want and not spend so much $$ (I’d try Dr. Dremo’s over in VA somewhere)
Going out in DC is fun. You’re bound to run into all kinds of people. I love going out in Adams Morgan especially when all the partying is over and you’re craving for some of that greasy pizza. And you’ll just start talking to random people. It’s one of those moments I enjoy because no one’s judging you at that moment. We’re all out there because we wanted a good time, and it was a good time, so we want to share those moments with random people.
I don’t really go out in VA very often. But I do know I like how arlington’s set up. It’s very college town. all the bars and restaurants are right there. Kinda nice. But i’m feeling like all the bars are the same thing after another. I should try going out there more often before I judge…..but it’s in VA. ;)
Bethesda. I like going out in Bethesda. I don’t go out there very often. it’s like a 15 minute drive from my place. And my most favorite part, you can’t smoke there. It’s a smoke free environment. i love being able to come home and not smell like smoke. I’ve been to several different places in bethesda. they’re all different. I’ve figured out a secret* as to why people can afford to go out in bethesda, the drinks are cheap, and everything closes at 2. (unlike DC) and more recently I had gone to Union Jack’s with my roommate. We started cracking up because a song had started playing, and we looked around. EVERYONE, i mean everyone started singing along to the song… it was that kelly clarkson song “since you been gone.” ** it was more funny to us because even the guys were singing along… but it’s a cool place. jam packed full of people.
Lately I’ve been going out in baltimore… since i grew up in md, I’m lazy. i say it bal more or b’more. I don’t say it any other way. That’s not the point. Anyway, the first time I had gone out to b’more last year with a friend of mine. I was completely shellshocked. there were more white boys than I’d ever seen in any bar.*** Not that i minded, it was just that I’m used to diversity 24/7. It was different than I was used to. Know what though, i enjoy b’more. It’s fun. You can go to 4 bars in one night, and not have to pay a cover charge. you can get 4 completely different types of environments. and people are so friendly…very easy going, and it helps that the drinks are cheaper….than dc that is.
I love exploring new cities. finding the fun spots, low key areas, where the friendly bartenders are, the places where you can sit back and watch everyone else, and so much more. There’s a lot around here. We’re definitely lucky people to live close to different types of neighborhoods where you can find your own spot.
What’s your favorite spot? what makes that place a place you can call it one of your favorite spots? How do you go about finding a place to go out to?
*this is purely my personal opinion
**confession: I did the exact same thing as everyone else, started singing along.
***and i grew up in a redneck town
