Join us for a belated celebration to honor America’s birthday at DPHH on Saturday, July 5th, the day after the 4th of July! It’s a great time to catch the Saturday night fever, something we haven’t done for years. DPHH was moved up pushed back one day so DPHHers can enjoy the fireworks with their family and friends.
It’s all beer all the time at Regional Food & Drink in Washington, DC, the location of the next DPHH. Not only does RFD boast 300 of the world’s finest bottled beers and the best selection of local brews, they are well known for their “Cuisine a la Bier”, where beer is included in the preparation of their recipes.
Happy Fourth of July! Enjoy the fireworks!

don’t you mean “pushed back?” “Moved up” would mean Thursday, July 3. ;-)
Yep. :)
Nice strikeout. :)
It’s “Cuisine à la bière” :)
Shane, can you email DPHH events a few days before the actual events rather than on the same day like the last 2-3 months?
Thanks
Marylander,
Typically we give a few days notice via email and a two week notice via our website. The last two were real close to DPHH, yeah. Thanks for bringing up your concern.
Frenchie,
Heh, let RFD know about their faux pas! That’s how they spell it on their menu at:

Shane,
Why the RFD? What about the real classy “Clyde” restaurant and bar in Gallery Place as compared to somewhat dumpy place like the RFD? You seems not take my advice for “Clyde” for the DPHH summertime site few months ago.
Foods aren’t great at the RFD anyway. This place once owned by Al Gore’s cousin which it had been seized by the IRS and DC Government for back taxes and fraudlent practices.
RFD is owned by different person for past five years. This place is really depressing as compared to the luxurious “Clyde” environment.
I tried to show you the real beauty of “Clyde” last time at another DPHH site in very same Gallery Place-Chinatown area. You seems got scared about the idea of me showing you around the “Clyde”. You did reply “Good idea, I will think of “Clyde” for future DPHH site”
Remmy about “promise is promise”! *grin*
At least, RFD main area could be converted to the dance floor area. I still miss the old RFD anyway.
I guess that I will skip to the next-door “Fado” bar to lure some deaf people there if I will be in town this July 4th weekend.
I am supposed to be out of town that weekend, but weather factor could play in my decision.
Many deaf people including me already lost our interests of attending the DC’s DPHH because of lousy site selections with no parking spaces or wrong places like very small bar in Dupont Circle area few years ago. We, deaf people had to sign little higher above our shoulders because of crowded paths like a size of broom closet.

If you don’t like the location of DPHH, then DON’T GO. It’s not like it’s mandatory for you to show up.
As for small locations…this IS a city. The bigger locations are mostly going to be in the suburbs. Tell me what places can handle a crowd of 300+ folks on a busy Friday (or Saturday) night and not have to worry about being stiffed on tips?
Hey Robert Lee Mason,
If you don’t like the way they do things, you’re more than welcome to establish your own DPHH chapter. Good luck!
Interesting comments. Of course some people won’t go to this july’s dphh event. If they don’t want to go, then it’s their decision. Clyde’s is a nice place, however, it’s more of a sit-down place than a bar. How many of you have actually been in the Chinatown location?
Here’s a suggestion.. pick different places. I’m starting to get bored with going to the same locations for dphh events. Although they may be successful, but mixing it up with different locations would appeal to more people. There’s over 350 establishments here that could be used for dphh events.
Here’s a small list I threw together off the top of my head:
Green Turtle
Dragonfly Bar
Cafe Asia
Eyebar
Rock and Roll hotel
All of these locations are within 2 blocks of a metro stop.
to the “DPHH” - calling someone’s name out is out of line.
Can’t wait to see what others are going to say on here. :D
We’re always looking for a good location for the DC DPHH. Normally we rotate among cities in this order: DC - VA - DC - MD - DC - VA…
The place must match or come extremely close to these criteria:
1. Able to handle an additional 250+ people
2. Near the DC Metro
3. Handicap accessible
And several other things…
Post your suggestions in here or on the DC DPHH Facebook discussion group at:

Lots of boring variety. ;)
In response to “Here’s An Idea ….” I never feel any manadatory requirement for me going to every DPHH events. I did skip several DC’s DPHH events over years. That is no big deal for me anyway.
In response to “DPHH”, you incorrectly spell my middle name. I am no Southerner at all. :) I would not reveal my correct middle name on the blogsphere due to the possibility of identity theft. I have to protect mine.
I would be not interested in creating another DPHH-like gatherings.

“Clyde’s at Gallery Place” could accomodate more than 300 people. This place have many comfy chairs and sofas and end tables to sit down and chat and drink.
Cons about “Clyde’s Gallery Place” is two-level drinking hole along with fine dining and some private rooms. That would create cliquey atomsphere, not very welcoming for other deaf people to join in the onging conversations, etc.
Chill,
Are you refer the Cafe Asia in downtown DC or somewhere within DC area?
Dragonfly Bar and Rock & Roll Hotel sounds great.
Which Green Turtle bar you refer to? My understanding about three different Green Turtle locations.
I understand that is no easy task for the DC’s DPHH committee to find a suitable place for our DPHH gatherings.
Green Turtle is located on the first floor of the Verizon center. about 30 feet away from the box office on F street. Clyde’s is nice, but maybe more of a bit on the upscale side? Cafe Asia in DC - I think it’s on I Street.
Maybe start a discussion on new locations?
Enjoy!
Dragonfly is closed for renovations this summer but it looks promising.

Rock and Roll Hotel isn’t near a metro, have talked to them before.

Eyebar looks cool, may check out their bar after renovations this summer.

Is Cafe Asia big enough?
http://www.cafeasia.com/
Keep the ideas/suggestions coming.
I’ve passed Cafe Asia before. It does NOT look big enough to handle the crowds that DPHH usually gets. It might work as a 5-7pm happy hour, though..
By the way, what happened to those?
I understand that the attendance was very small.
So, either small or huge… no in-between for us here in DC, eh? ;-)
the Cafe Asia on I street is pretty big. At least it’s bigger than some of the other dphh locations i’ve been to.
