This way you don't need to back up your data, because it is already backed up on the other one if one fails. If both fail, there is a very high chance that a data recovery program will be able to retrieve the data from one of the two drives. This eliminates having to remember to backup... hard drives are so cheap that a second one doesn't cost that much. Buy two harddrives and use them in RAID Mirror configuration.
