The DeafDC.com family continues to grow with the addition of Teresa Blankmeyer Burke. She wrote two recent guest blogs for us: The Queen of Supertitles and Cell Phone Etiquette for Hard of Hearing People. A semi-transplanted westerner, Teresa comes to Washington DC by way of Albuquerque, New Mexico, where downtown traffic jams do not exist and green chile is served at every restaurant. As a hard of hearing child, Teresa spent a lot of time asking questions and watching what everyone else was doing so that she could infer what she was supposed to do. Somehow this led to her current gig as a philosopher, a profession where people are actually paid to ask questions and ruminate endlessly on answers.
She is presently writing a dissertation on bioethics and the deaf community that focuses on the ethics of genetic technology. When she is not writing (or even when she is) Teresa can be found hiking along the Anacostia River wetlands or the Rio Grande bosque trail, depending on what day of the week it is.
Please give Teresa a warm DeafDC.com welcome!

Welcome aboard, Teresa!
What does everyone think about Mayor Fenty ordering D.C. cabs to switch to meters? I think it’s a fantastic idea!
Welcome, Teresa! Looking forward to your blogs. :)
Welcome, Teresa!

(sorry I HAD to test out this new webcam… fun!)

Someone has too much time on his hands! ;)
Haha! Seriously, though, it did take an hour or so to figure out how to make it record without crashing. It seems that if you reply with a video comment within one of these ever shrinking dialogue rectangles, it crashes, and if you record for over a minute, it crashes. Not sure if that’s just my set-up or what…
(This may be something better discussed in the other post about video comments.)
Tried to record web cam from my Mac, it does not work so used my tv blip instead…fyi for avid Mac users.
I’d like to extend a warm welcome to you, Teresa!
Hi everyone! (waving hand with smiles) Thanks for your warm welcomes in English and ASL. I’m looking forward to our conversations online. And I really need to get a second webcam so I can play with the webcam comments technology - scary as the giant mutant hand looks, I’m willing to risk it! (My webcam is happily affixed to my computer in Albuquerque, which does me no good in DC, now does it?)
See you soon,
Teresa
