Matt Swenson, who authors the Swengali column in the Express’s sports section, made mention of the fact that, last night, more than 47,000 fans willingly forked $25 to park at FedEx Field to watch a free Redskins scrimmage game. Scrimmage. Not an official exhibition game. Swenson called it “a glorified practice featuring a bunch of backups.”
Now, that scares me. I’m not a rabid pigskins hooligan fan. I am now aware that I apparently live in a city where 47,000 people flock to watch a pickup game of football. That’s more fans than any Nationals game has ever attracted. Whoo. Am I ready for another season of Redskins news being splattered across the front page of every freakin’ Express issue?
I’m not joining fantasy football this year. My disastrous managerial decisions early on effectively put me out of commission by week 5, (die, Ryan Moats, die!!) but I’m sure a lot of other people are pumped about it. Heck, these scrimmage games help those die-hard FF players prepare for the drafts. In a way, I’m going to miss being a part of the action this year–FF really got me engaged in America’s favorite sport, but I’ll try and keep up with the stats this season anyway.
Which is why I’m going to throw out my slightly-researched prediction for Super Bowl XLI. It’ll be Carolina beating Denver 21-6. Yeah, you heard it here first, people.

Carolina vs Denver for the Superbowl??? Which is more ridiculous, your football projections or those hideous muttonchops you insist upon wearing. Where do you think you are, Yukon Territory?
Oh, hello! Thanks for providing DeafDC.com with a classic example of an angry, rabid, and rude football hooligan.
I’m sure you overlooked the part in my blog where I said I was the nation’s foremost expert on American football and that ESPN columnists regularly consult me to make sure their predictions are sound. Of course, it’s ludicrous to think that my projections shouldn’t be taken seriously, so you must be joking here.
A bit touchy, aren’t we? Are you on the rag or what.
Only a fool would pick Jake Plummer to lead his team to the super bowl, then say “I meant to do that”. Not to mention winning 3rd runner up at the Wolverine look-a-like contest. You have the muttonchops, but you don’t have the Kevin Pollak knitted eyebrows look.
The Raiders will be in Super Bowl next year….Believe it or not! it’s up to ya.
Just baby win….The Excellent of Committment, Raiders!!! Just baby win….So they will be all way to Super Bowl next year, Jan 2007…
