[...] Gallaudet’s presidential search has undoubtedly taken over the headlines. Adam’s review of Steve Weiner, Ron Stern, and Jane Fernandes, are all good reads. Several controversial topics were also raised: Bush’s potential impeachment (Bobby), censorship of network TV (Adam), tracking people via cellphones (Julie), keeping the Internet free (David), plugging away at pagers while driving (Rob), and being a Deaf ambassador (David).
Great topic. You're right - everyone using the Internet should be concerned. For example, AOL is proposing a two-tiered e-mail system. If someone wants their messages to be guaranteed to arrive in an AOL user's mailbox, they would pay a fee. If one does not wish to pay the fee, they are not required to do so, but then again, the e-mail is not guaranteed to arrive at its destination. This is an outrage. Read more at:

One of the wonderful things about the Internet is how it has been such a level playing field for _everyone_. The blogger working off of a cobbled-together 386 in his 200-square-foot studio has the same ability to show up on your computer screen as Microsoft or AOL the way things are right now. It's brought free speech back and taken some control away from the corporate media. For example, bloggers have broken stories that the mainstream media later picked up on. If this inane idea becomes reality, using the 'Net will become more expensive and it will not be as equitable nor as free-wheeling. Corporations will be back in control, and we all know how trustworthy they are.
