I would put it more delicately and far more diplomatically -- insular, isolated, and naive, to say the least.

<blockquote>The ACTA seems favor the “authoritian” adminstrative style like JK.</blockquote>

Actually, I don't think that's it, exactly. They're all about "academic freedom" and "freedom to dissent" when it comes to protecting conservative students from supposedly-authoritarian liberal professors and administrators. I think they're largely motivated by a profound hostility to multiculturalism and by a feeling that universities have ceased to be about celebrating what's glorious and good about a supposedly-monolithic, upper-class Euro-American high culture. ("The loudest constituencies" is code for "minorities," I think, by which they mean not just racial minorities, but also feminists, gays and lesbians, and other advocates for formerly-excluded and marginalized groups.) I'd be surprised if they really had a handle on what's going on at Gallaudet, but they know it has something to do with "deaf identity" and "deaf culture" and with the idea that deaf spaces are healthy and good, rather than necessary evils, and that sounds multicultural enough to be a problem for them. At least, that's my hunch.

I understand somebody did get sprayed on the side of the head and was taken to the hospital to make sure he's okay. Do I have evidence on paper? No.

oops i meant 'when DPS seized the building' LOL.

Anyway, according to http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/13/AR2006101301492.html, JKF claimed that she met with students on Oct. 10. This picture indicates that the meeting on video took place on the 13th. http://photo.xanga.com/ladymuck/9fbaa83233511/photo.html.

I finally locate the editorial piece of the Washington Post, (10/28), titled "Thought Police in a Lecture Hall" written by Asheesh Kapur Siddique.

This editorial piece have the same parallel with the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, formerly called the National Alumni Forum.

Many right-wing organizations, ex. the ACTA, apply the sleath tactics to deceive the general public about their real agenda of promoting the "authoritian" style within educational facilities.

That's what Jane Fernandes is all about the real danger of "authoritian" management for the higher education institution like Gallaudet University.

There was yesterday's editoral piece on blasting the so-called academic fairness organization in the Washington Post editoral page which similar to the American Council of .

I could not find this editoral piece via online on the WP website. I have to go back to the newsprint to find the name of writer.

I would be not surprised at all what the right-wing organizations paint itself to be the non-partisan in sleath mode. The ACTA seems favor the "authoritian" adminstrative style like JK.

Chris, I acknowledge that you've had plenty of opportunities to see the sides of Gallaudet that are not exposed to public view. I would counter that "incidents," as you call them, are common to any large organization, including schools. After all, these are human beings we're talking about here. They come with a blend of good and bad qualities. We all want top-notch people for Kendall Green, but the availability of top-notch people is always subject to circumstances over which an administrator may or may not have some control. Every administrator wants staff who are competent as well as self-starters and self-motivated. Between the spectrum of competent and inept, there are people who do their jobs pretty well most of the time. Last I heard, the OSWD office is still operating and has a lot of staff. Expanding the Honors Program is compatible with increasing academic standards for Gallaudet.
