I love pizza, I’ll admit. In between stops at my local pizzeria (Today’s Pizza in Capitol Hill), I’ll snack on frozen pizza from the grocery store and an occasional slice from a place near where I work.
I’ve always decried that DC was not a pizza city, but perhaps this is changing. New places are popping up. Pizza is in the air. DCist has reviewed a few of the new ones (2Amys, Bebo Trattoria, Red Rocks, Comet Ping Pong). Summary: verdict was for Comet Ping Pong.
What is your favorite pizza place in DC? Some people swear by Ledo’s in College Park. Others say waterfront Alexandria has good pizza. Yet others shrug and say, “There’s no great pizza in DC.”

Ledos FTW!
FTW? As in “Fcuk the World”?
Luigi’s near Georgetown was decent for gourmet style pizzas. I dont know if they’re still there, couldn’t score any google hits. If memory serves me correctly, they dont sell it by the slice.

Somewhat related to a blog I recently wrote:

FTW= For The Win!
I know, first time I saw it, I had to search around to find out what it really meant. It’s a new term being used on the internet.
I concur with others who said there’s “no great pizza in DC” and elsewhere but NYC! :) Born and reared in NYC, I am spoiled by their pizza and many other food, especially bagels.
Bah. Rocky Rococos, a chain restaurant of all things, based mostly in Wisconsin and the Midwest.
Best pizza in the known universe, and I’m certain it’s served 24/7 unto eternity in Valhalla.
Sorry that doesn’t help us deprived DC residents. But it DOES give us the afterlife to look forward to…
Best pizza in the known universe? I recommend Guida’s Pizzeria if you stop by Rochester, NY.
Pfftt! Which part of Midwest? I have frequented Indianapolis many summers and during a few breaks when growing up. Even my sister complained how she misses pizza in NYC. Pizza and other food are the first thing on her mind when she comes visiting, ha!
Katherine, I agree. I live in Indy now, and the food here is BLAND. BORING.
It’s all steak and/or beef.
No ethnic food.
This place is in Alexandria - old town Alexandria and they make EXCELLENT pizzas!! YUM!

Guiseppi’s Pizza in either Rockville or the Kentlands @ Gaithersburg.
Best local pizza ever with MOUNDS of mozz cheese!
Brian G
Guiseppi’s Pizza taste like a Taco Bell version of pizza.
1. Pizza Paradiso in Dupont Circle and Georgetown
2. Our outdoor wood-fired pizza oven!
The more pizzerias establishments you ate at the more valid your opinions are!
Not necessarily so. If you ate pizza the world over and havent had NYC pizza, then your opinion is not well founded.
Actually, I need to admit something. The best pizza is simply your favorite even if it is Chef Boyardee’s. The best pizza is the kind that makes people individually happy. Truthfully, I can tell some of you are seemingly bluffing to impress other posters.
Blue collar yum: Il Forno in Bethesda is a gem.
White collar yum: If you like going upscale, I gotta second Sharon’s Pizzeria Paradiso! More luxurious, and yet not too foofy.
When I used to live in Gaitehrsburg (1984-1993) across the street from NIST where they had deers on the premises. There was an Il Forno at Gaithersburg, MD (Near Deevil(Spelling?) Funeral home)and cooked with wood pizza oven. I wondered is it the same company?
Zims of Gaithersburg made an excellent white pizza. If I had to come up there and I will sure visit Zims and el Forno
I am now living in Florida and no pizza is that good and at home (New Jersey/New York) still makes me drool except the anchovies.
Pizza is a very, very subjective matter and something that is close to my heart. As an aficionado of pizza, I can say with some authority that the best pizza I’ve tasted here in D.C. is either Pizzeria Paradiso in Dupont Circle or Pulcinella’s in McLean.
I have not, however, tasted 2Amys, although I know people who swear by it.
I like Ledo’s, but my significant other does not. In large part, she doesn’t like the sweetish flavor in the tomato sauce. However, it is an excellent family restaurant chain that has reasonable prices.
I do not like Faccia Luna and think that it is overrated.
If I have to go for chain pizza, I’d go for Bertucci’s over California Pizza Kitchen.
If frozen pizza, I’d go for Wegman’s brand frozen pizza with the frozen California Pizza Kitchen a close second.
In New York, Famous Ray’s, no question. (The one near New York University since there are a plethora of Ray’s Famous pizzas all over the City.)
But seriously, I like the small Italian joints that serve good pizza. It’s such a treat finding out the different kinds of pizza.
Looking back, I think I like thin crust pizza and don’t like heavy, bready pizza. But then again, I don’t like crunchy crust, but like it soft, but not too soft. It’s an art to a good pizza!
Pizza Pardisio in Dupont Circle have some moldy presence which cause me to vomit, despite of excellent service and food. Pizza Pardisio in Georgetown, do not offer happy hours rate which is kinda surprising!
No questions about superbu delicious pizzas at the Little Italy in NYC! This area have been going thru many changes. The autumn time is really perfect for me going to NYC munching on pizzas.
Setta’s Pizzeria in Dupont Circle sometimes could be really okay I love their leafy toppings (kale, green). Very healthy with the olive oil container on the table!
Bobby Cox is absolutely right about DC not being a pizza town!
I am a lactose intolerant now. I could not consume any dairy products. I have to eat pizzas without cheese. I always love eating top quality of cheese! I never eat American cheese. Yeech!
Yes, I sometimes cheat on cheese lately. Me, bad boy!

I want to add “Setta Osteria” restuarant and its street address - 1666 Connecticut Avenue.
I am no longer going there during the happy hours since this establishment shrink up the happy hours menu to one kind of pizza. I prefer “Proscuitto e rucola” pizza with arugula and shaved grana.
I could not remmy the Setta website. Just type “Sette and DC” on any search engine. Okay?
This place tend to attract young professionals and international crowd.

You all have to try “Pepe’s Pizza” near Yale University in New Haven, CT
The second best is “Serious Pie” in downtown Seattle
Hmm I might not even want to share my favorite pizza with anyone!
anyway once boyfriend moved from baltimore to silver spring. We’ve complained infinitely about the pizza here. whoever says mama lucia has good pizza, it’s NOT. I haven’t had a good piece from there yet.
in baltimore for a quick cheap bite to eat of pizza, we order from sorrento’s. it’s 5 bucks for a large cheese pizza. it’s good!
as for the other place, i’ll leave it for people to discover…just cuz it’s a nice hole in the wall place ;)
Kill me if you wish, take me out and hang me, feed me to the birds. Im not a food critic or an expert but the question posed “Whats your favorite pizza place?”
My answer and im not claiming it has the best pizza the world over so I dont want to hear any arguements, its my favorite place end of the story.
PIZZA HUT, cheap, easy and they deliver!
Haha. Score one for lowbrows…my favorite frozen pizza is Stouffer’s French Bread pizza and Red Baron individual pizza.
I also like Papa John’s as well. :-)
I love Papa John’s too but sadly they dont deliver in my area.
LOST DOG Cafe & Pizzeria in Arlington is the best place with 52 sandwich options, too. The milkshakes are notable. It also boasts a huge selection of beer and wine from around the world.
I’m proud to say that I’m a regular.
I agree!
MATCHBOX!!!!
Amazing wood-fired pizzas. Soo freaking good — and so are their mini-burgers.
*drool* *smack smack* *burp*
Ledo’s is awesome too — but Matchbox rules.
http://www.matchboxdc.com
I was actually going to recommend Matchbox, too! I love it. Their mini burgers are irresistible.
I kid you not - but Lean Cuisine’s 200-calorie frozen pizza entries are pretty good!
Armand’s Pizza—several locations around DC area. Thick deep crust with yummy stuff on it. Gourmetish with blue collar twist.
I agree with Liz Stone. When I was a student at Gallaudet in the 70’s. Armand’s Pizza on Wis Avenue was simply top-notch. It was a great place to grab a bite to eat before going to the foreign movies.
They used to (still do?) have pretty awesome lunch buffets… I remember going a couple times when I was in HS… *grins*
I would recommend Valentino’s in Alexandria. It’s the only closest thing to the pizza de New York! I would know, because I was born and raised up there. :)
How about the “fancier” of two cafeterias at Gallaudet. That one on the main floor of the old Ely Center back in early 1990s. I’m talking about that one is really best mostly handout money (VR, the dole, SSI, SSD, SSDI, whatever–can buy with soda to go!
Pizza Hut?? This franchise serve one of most worst pizzas ever I consume.
The California Pizzas had their frozen pizza products in many grocery stores nowaday. I was surprised that those products tasted same as the restaurant.

Since some are talking about pizza places other than DC,
La Val’s in Berkley, Oakland, and Alameda
Zachary’s in Rockridge
Yummmm
Ok– I’ll bite. Blondie’s in Berkeley/SF, and Lamonica’s here in L.A. Although La Val’s is good, I’ll admit.
