Hello, Gallaudet would survive without Federal Funding. It has been preparing for the day when the Feds would cut off the support. What about ourselves? Who can do without their SSI or SSDI checks? I can honestly say I have tried to get the SSI support, but was rejected. I been working a regular job since I graduated from high school. Can anyone say the same? Hard work in school and on the job is the only way to getting rid of the label "disable."

Just because the school might be rated "ineffective" does not mean all of the programs are ineffective. I just earned my B.A. in Secondary Education and History this past May '06 and I dont believe my Gallaudet Education is worthless.

Education is what we make it and students have a huge responsibility in our own education the same goes for the Deaf we have a responsibility in all of this and its time we stop placing blame and step to the plate and accept our own responsibilities in regards to our own education and focus in life.

So no, my Gallaudet diploma is not ineffective in fact the name Gallaudet inspite the protest still opens many doors the world over and for that im Thankful!

Ben. M.

I would enjoy reading a guest piece on a more serious side about the whole ordeal so please do consider making a post so we can get a better view or understanding from your side of the fence.

Thanks,

I believe the quote is "Soylent Green is people! It's PEO-PUHLE!".

You have to do it in a Charlton Heston screaming/talking voice... like me, Charlton Heston. And not just screaming, but also using inflection. I gave private lessons to Keifer Sutherland and now he's the master at it. Seen "24" lately? His screaming/talking from the latest season is much more improved from his screaming/talking from the first season. He will never, however, quite reach the zenith of his father and his "talking/whispering/creepy" method.

Bobby Cox... a bear? Oh. My. God. If Bobby Cox is a bear, then I'm a chinese jet pilot. And no, I'm not chinese. Nor a jet pilot. I'm not gay, for that matter. I wonder if the deaf gay bears discriminate against the deaf gay cubbies? Because they're not big enough. No, not big "down there", you dirty... get your minds out of the gutters.

Mason,

I think you were descredited the very moment you compared yourself to DaVinci. Hey, wait a second! Isn't that you in "The Last Supper"? Where Mary Madgalene is supposed to be, are you the Apostle John, holding the knife in your palm to her throat? Whoa dude, how did you do that? You must be time travellin'. Maybe you can time travel and unwravel the mystery of the Phantom Gallaudet President.

Does this mean all the worthless, shifty Gallaudet graduates from 1988 to 2006 will give back what is essentially a worthless diploma? Because if you're not being educated, courtesy of some secret plot, that does make your diploma worthless. So it seems. Let's see if I can work this logic out:

1: I. King takes over in 88 for his own personal gain resulting in an ineffective rating some years down the line

2: All schools with an ineffective rating are giving ineffective educations

C: therefore, anyone with a Gallaudet diploma is ineffective... from 1988 to 2006, of course.

If Im not mistaken the title of this discussion is "Gallaudet Memories," and related information about Gallaudet. I and im sure many others here are appreciative of your concerns about Deaf REACH, however this might not be the correct place for them.

However I would STRONGLY suggest you make your concerns known to the administrators at Deaf REACH they cannot function without community feedback so feel free to share yours with Deaf REACH instead of ranting and raving here simply because you have a personal beef with me.

Now back to the discussion at hand!

I think raising the GPA requirement is a good idea also, many of the Departments at Gallaudet already have GPA requirements in place but general education and some other departments would do Gallaudet a service by raising the bar and forcing students to also rise to the challange! I like your 2.5 idea!

Is the Deaf REACH wonderful non-profit organization of the deaf doing the wonderful services to the deaf DC community? Plz!

Deaf REACH's buildings have been greatly detoritated. One building have the life-size hole.

Many staffers really do not pay attention to the clients. No formal trainings for staffers like the living assistant staff. No effective communication channels!

Deaf REACH's executive director earn $74,000 while staffers are barely paid within the living wages.

Deaf REACH never hold any formal HIV education(s) for the entire deaf DC community. Where were they? That was before the federal regulation banned the HIV/AIDS education.

The clients with the Deaf REACH really do not function independently which this non-profit organization suppose to help those individuals leading the independent lives.

One client told me that the staffer tried to steal her $$ from the pant pocket. I was skeptical at first, then seen it for myself. Oh my God!

Two staffers recently quitted from the Deaf REACH. One is currently working at the Gally cafeteria for better $$ and no office politics.

Deaf REACH need to make the real visionary goals and relocate somewhere for more accessible area. It did make some efforts to provide the service to the community in general.

Please do not get me all wrong about the Deaf REACH staffer(s). I personally like them as person, but could not pretend to ignore the existing situations.
