I lost interest in Gallaudet and shall not have anything to do with it EVER AGAIN.
Deaf Against Deaf Power, not power for Education.
Protest was too barbariac by calling both King Jordan and Jane Fernandes all the names from book.
I can see the corrosion at Gallaudet which started yesterday….the first time in history now.
THE END OF GALLAUDET UNIVERSITY for me…FAREWELL!

The real struggle is going to be the next person selected as president. The students of color are going to plump for Glenn Anderson while Noah and others will want to push for Ron Stern. Others may or may not want Stephen Weiner, the third candidate, but others will want to look further abroad such as Davila and other notable Deaf educators.

And, of course, there is the dark horse, Roz Rosen. Is it any surprise that her two children, Jeffrey and Susan, were involved in the protests? I mean, seriously?

So — what are people thinking now that Fernandes is out of the picture? Personally, it strikes me as a really bad move on the part of the BOT. Who has control of this school at this point? The students?

And what’s with the protesters burning effigies (is that the plural?) of Fernandes? It’s no wonder she didn’t want to talk with them!

Hardly. From the days of Martha Vineyard some 100 years ago to now had Deaf culture grown from a several hundreds to around 900,000 Deaf people in the United States. And it continues to grow. Technology has helped Deaf culture than nobody has ever dreamed of before. They scream at every potential demise to their Deaf culture from cochlear implantation, cued speech to stem cells not realizing their culture is still growing and moving forward. And now they’re saying that Dr. Fernandes is going to ruin it all.

I guess this assumes that deaf folks are regularly denied deaf ed jobs and asl teaching jobs in favor hearing folk?

I think its great that hearing students are taking ASL classes, but its bad when they offer a job to the hearing student to teach ASL or become teachers for the deaf. It also save the school board money when they use them as intepreters…..

Thank you so very much for saying that. It’s about time that some one said it. Oh, and to all of you people who say that hearing people don’t understand Deaf Culture and never will, That is because it is people like you who are predjudice of hearing peoplevand WON’T LET IT be accepted by hearing people. I meen there are many students taking ASL in schools wanting to learn about Deaf culture.
