I do not agree that Ron Stern is any good; you guys just want Deaf elitism. His family just wants the power. Just wait and see - if he ever takes over Gallaudet, there will be no more Deafhood and Deaf elitism will be ever-present just like so many Deaf families want! So, no thanks! This is just sick in regards to Deaf elitism and Ron. The 2 other finalists are not good, either.

*chuckle* Some people compared Ron Stern to JFK and Clinton. Let's take a hard look at JFK and Clinton's legislative success. Many historians acknowledge that JFK failed miserably as a president thru the legislative process. Many of JFK's legislative proposals torpeoded down. If not for LBJ, the legislative expert, we would not have JFK's earliest legislative proposals in action. Action and rheotric are two different things!

Charmisa and rock-star quality of someone do not take us anywhere. JFK left several permanent legacy which haunted us in many ways without any kind of safety-net.

We need someone, who is the person of character and principle. The dark horse will emerge as the next Gallaudet University president.

I have to say I'm very impressed by the article you did and I'm very glad you wrote about this.

I can see the comparision from the other presidential candiates and I think everyone should know about everything else before we can see what the board of trustees vote on.

just my two cents, thank you.

“Ron Stern, Rock Star” – Yup, he rocked the house! (and by the way “Stern” is German/Yiddish for STAR!)

I was really inspired by Ron Stern's passion, drive, and the can-do, let's-make-positive-changes-together energy that emanated from him. It's clear that he believed in what he said. This was not neither politico smooth-talk nor listless administrator-speak. The man was sincere and committed to what he was advocating. This is what we need - someone with fresh perspectives and energy, with graduate training (soon completed) in EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION: pre-K through doctoral level administration. I'm *not* concerned that he hasn't finished his dissertation yet. He only has a few chapters to go and I believe (as do the presidential search committee members who voted to name him a finalist, apparently) that he is motivated to follow through on that. Weiner (counseling) and Fernandes (literature) do already have doctorates, but I believe Stern's graduate training better prepares him to lead Gallaudet and live up to Jordan's legacy as a positive icon -- and committed advocate -- for what d/Deaf people of all ages, all over the world, can achieve.

One of the Q&A parts of the presentation that stand out in my mind:

Q: Do you know who you might pick to be the provost, deans, president's council?

A: First of all, everyone will start with a clean slate. Secondly, I will select people who have positive energy and mutual respect and trust in the students, faculty, and staff.

Look out world: here comes a Gallaudet administration that will be designed help Gallaudet live up to our (usually) shiny PR -- both in the daily lives of the people who live, work, and study on Kendall Green, and as a symbol of hope for deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind people and their hearing allies the world over.
