What is the ICC?

It’s the Intercounty Connector which would connect Montgomery County and Prince George County. It’s connecting 270 and 95 without having to use 495 to get from one county to another. I think that’s a good thing.

I knew about it, but never fully understood the purpose behind it until I started driving back and forth on 495 to get between 270 and 95. I cringe every time i have to use 495. I really hate 495. Usually I can get lucky and the traffic will let up by the time I pass Georgia Ave, and then it’ll be smooth sailing from there. (more…)

What’s your definition of imperfection? If you’re a regular Deaf reader of DeafDC.com, then it may differ from that of the general population. Especially those who have been aborting fetuses due to their cleft lips or webbed fingers. And then compare that to this article, where a Deaf Lesbian couple purposely increases their chances of having a Deaf child. (more…)

I’m sitting on an orange seat, on the Orange Line, eating an orange. I know you’re not supposed to eat on the Metro but what are they going to do, arrest me? Ah, they do arrest people who eat on the Metro–never mind.

So, I was eating my orange and locked eyes with a hobo. An hobo homunculus. He was riding the metro (sitting on a yellow seat, mind you) and his eyes were not orange. They were blue. (more…)

No, not Gallaudet. The government. I’ve now become convinced that it’s not only the President that has a warped sense of law and order. The behavior by several Congressional leaders in response to the FBI raid on the office of Representative Jefferson (D-LA) has been appalling.

Rep. Jefferson, via a wiretap, was caught taking bribes for a telephone investment deal in Africa. This piece of juicy information was broadcast all across the networks. While, of course, he is innocent until proven guilty, he’s pretty damn guilty. (more…)

As Swetha wrote, the most anticipated baby since the Christ child has arrived to bless our meek peoples. But that’s not all that’s happened recently (although our world has been surely changed forever by Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt’s august wisdom). We had one of our much-honored three-day weekends! Did everybody have a good Memorial Day break?

Our bloggers were busy gearing up for the weekend, so things were a bit quiet around here. If you didn’t visit us, be sure to catch up on our articles: (more…)

Someone has to say this, so here goes:

ASSOCIATED PRESS IS ON CRACK!

As I was browsing CNN, the following headline jumped at me:

‘The most anticipated baby since Jesus Christ’
EXCUSE ME!?!?!?!?!?!

Of course, they were talking about the impending arrival of the spawn of Jolie-Pitt. I am sure it will be a cute baby (the genetic makeup is astounding) but comparing it to the arrival of Jesus? Let’s face it, Jolie is no Virgin Mary! (more…)

The NAD Board of Directors extended its invitation to Dr. I. King Jordan in January 2006 to keynote the opening ceremonies at the upcoming 48th Biennial NAD Conference, June 29-July 3, 2006 in Palm Desert, CA. The Board wished to recognize Dr. Jordan’s 18 years of leadership, also keeping in mind that this would be his last biennial conference as president of Gallaudet University. Dr. Jordan accepted the invitation in the same month. (more…)

The Da Vinci Code started showing in movie theaters on May 19th.

There has been a lot of controversy about it, particularly because other authors claim that Dan Brown has plagiarized their work. I have basically been avoiding any publicity about this movie mainly because i want to be impartial to it and NOT judge how good or bad the movie is until I see it for myself.

I absolutely LOVED the book, once I got past a certain chapter, I could NOT stop reading it. It was a page turner. While in Paris, I had every opportunity to do the “Da Vinci Code” tour, I didn’t do it because i thought the whole idea was kind of cheesy, tacky, or what say you. Once I found out that the Da Vinci Code was being made into a movie and it was going to star Tom Hanks, I was skeptical. But Tom Hanks is a quality actor, but can I look past it being Tom Hanks? Hello once again! Have you ever heard of, or seen the movie An Endless Summer I/II? It’s a surfing flick, and talks about the search of the perfect wave, the quest for the passion within each of us that drives us to reach and accomplish our goals–well, what I have for you here is a surefire way to tap into your passion without getting hammered by a mammoth 35-foot wave–the passions that burn from your taste buds, that is!

Without further ado, here is the patented Ocuto guide of places that you could whet your appetite at in the District over the summer…buen provecho!

I’ve developed a rating system. Instead of the dollar symbol “$” I’m using the letter “O”. The more O’s there are, the higher the bill will be. (more…)

This country is built on the platform of immigration–LEGAL IMMIGRATION! As I sit here typing this, I realize and recognize that I, too, am an immigrant. I came in as a permanent alien at the age of 12. I went through the education system and the proper channels, waiting till I was 18 to apply to become a naturalized citizen. I had the opportunity to utilize all the services, amenities and luxuries offered by this country. The reason why they were offered to me: I WAS LEGAL.

I understand that many people come here looking to lead a better life–my family did. My issue however is, what is the point of having laws if:

  • they are not being enforced, and
  • we pardon the people who violate these laws?

Am I saying that the illegal immigrants should be sent back? NO! They have created a life here and uprooting them is not right. (more…)
